Sunset Serenade: Welcoming Fall as Summer Fades

August, the Sunday of summer. A transition month wishing us farewell from the sun-drenched days of summer to welcome the crispness of fall that brings an array of experiences and opportunities. Nostalgia fills the air in the final moments of summer but there is an endless amount of optimism on the horizon of a new season that captivates and excites us all. From tan lines to chilly orange painted skies, there is so much to reflect on from the summer season as we look forward to fall. Fall welcomes the return of routine as we begin to step back into school and work, the days of vacation slowly dwindle and we channel a renewed sense of focus and productivity. There is so much to say about summer, many of us don’t wish to say goodbye to the salt air and european summer getaways but fall is approaching with a cozy embrace. In the months ahead there are holidays, fashion trends, new books to read and movies to see awaiting us and a different liveliness that encompasses the atmosphere.

Fall fashion will welcome a frenzy of animal print, faux-fur oversized coats and Yves Saint Laurent's fall 2024 collection of pure sheer excellence. From Milan to New York and Paris, liquid leather and turtlenecks are on the fashion board for fall trends to look forward to this year — accentuated with stunning silhouettes and slouchy beanies. Autumn 2024 fashion trends are serving up New York heiress energy as we enter our Gossip Girl era, the streets are going to be flooded with Miu Miu and Chloe inspired it girls. We are dressing like debutants with thanks to Prada who is highlighted for their ode to fall fashion in a recent Who What Wear article, “There is perhaps no one to thank more for this than Miuccia Prada herself, who not only recently introduced this era to Prada’s collections, but has long advocated for this style sensibility at Miu Miu—let’s not forget that along with the ultra-short miniskirts the brand’s ‘frazzled English woman’ also had cashmere cardigans, pearls and below-the-knee skirts, too” (Maxine Eggenberger, Who What Wear 2024). Burgundy is the color of the season, this wine color inspired by the Burgundy region of France will be the perfect shade of deep red and violet tones for your arm candy. Between denim on denim, cardigans, the comeback of khaki and bold statement belts, the fall 2024 fashion is here and we are sat and ready to welcome it all.

Your big-cat energy coat needs somewhere to go — every fashion lover has an outfit for an occasion and fall is filled with festivities. Cozy coastal dinners, bonfires, pumpkin spice lattes and frolicking in the autumn leaves, the season ahead doesn’t fall short of things to do. If you want to feel less sad that summer is ending, here is what’s on the fall horizon — ‘tis the season for seasonal drinks and yes that means it’s almost PSL weather. The leaves are changing to the most beautiful shade of oranges and reds, that denim on denim outfit is perfect for pumpkin and apple picking and of course it’s sweater weather. Fall may not be bikinis and aperol spritz but it means cooler temperatures and lower electricity bills, Halloween, Oktoberfest and mulled wine. As the sun sets on endless summer days, the beginning of holidays and everything pumpkin, cinnamon and spice nestled by the fireplace offers new experiences and adventures that autumn brings.

You know what pairs well with your pumpkin spice latte and the Anthropologie fall decor in your living room — the return of your favorite shows and new ones to enjoy. Arriving this fall to a Netflix near you is Emily in Paris season 4, The Umbrella Academy fourth and final season and the series adaptation of the novel A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. If you are more of a film lover then you can find an array of new films coming to theaters this fall — Colleen Hoovers It Ends With Us will be in theater Aug. 9th, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Sep. 6, Joker: Folie a Deux Oct. 4th and Gladiator 2 Nov. 22nd. For all my fellow readers out there, September is going to be filled with newly released books that will keep our bookshelves stacked for the entire season. Entitlement by Rumaan Alam releases September 17th, Irish Novelist Sally Rooney, author of Normal People and Conversations With Friends will publish her latest novel Intermezzo in the U.S on September 24th and Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors will officially hit stores September 3rd.

Wistfulness of one season ending to welcome another may be at an all time high at the moment but it is a chance to reflect on all that the summer was and what the rest of the year will be. From beach days to cozy nights, embrace summer as it comes to a close reminiscing on all the memories made and prepare for what’s next as autumn slowly rises.
