This month’s cover features Aya Cash from Amazon Prime’s The Boys. She plays the mysterious Stormfront. Photographed by Mike Ruiz, the story was inspired by Veronica Lake, a 40’s Hollywood icon, who had a petite stature, peak-a-boo hair style and red lipstick and was in many film noir movies. After learning Aya had a passion for vintage I wanted to create a story that showcased her love for this style of fashion.

1. Please introduce yourself:
My name is Aya Cash, I'm 5'2 and I love eating cheese, The Faraway Nearby by Rebecca Solnit and Love Island.

2. Where are you from and the current location?
I'm from San Francisco. I was raised on Castro St. I currently live in Brooklyn and probably fit that stereotype though I prefer to say it before you do.

3. Can you tell us a little bit about your role in The Boys Season 2?
I play a disgusting, bigoted, racist super "hero" named Stormfront.

4. Is there a challenge you face when playing StormFront?
Normally, you look at a character and try to see past her actions to reveal her heart so you can find the good in her. Stormfront’s heart is acid.

5. You have a few upcoming projects, can you share a little bit about them?
I worked on a Fox pilot that I loved that was shut down because of the pandemic so we're in a holding pattern. It's called "This Country," and it's based on a very funny British series of the same name, but who knows if anyone will see our version. And I'm in my dear friend's horror, comedy movie called "Scare Me," which is streaming on Shudder now.

6. Who is your inspiration?
My mother, who is the greatest artist I know, and my father and stepmother, who are the wisest people I know.

7. We know that you were born and raised in San Francisco, California. What do you miss the most about it after you’ve moved to New York City?
The San Francisco I grew up in doesn't really exist anymore, so I miss what everyone misses from their hometown, which is their youth. I miss raves and graffiti and smoking when I thought my body was invincible. I miss my best friend (who still lives there) and my parents and getting burritos in the Mission before dancing.

8. How did you discover you wanted to be an actor?
My father says we were watching Star Trek: Next Generation, and I very calmly said "I am gonna do that one day." He swears that was the moment he knew I would be an actor. I maintain I was talking about space travel.

9. Do you have a favorite moment when filming on set?
Singing show tunes with Karen (Fukuhara) and Abraham (Lim). The crew was gonna kill us, but we had an amazing time. Also, that day Ant (Antony Starr) and I ate 6 dozen dumplings.

10. What is your motto in life?
I'm not really a "motto" kind of person. I like a longer format.
