Kyle Richards
Kyle Richards, an actress and TV personality, began her career as a child actress, appearing in a recurring role on “Little House on the Prairie” and in several adventure and horror films, including “The Car “(1977), Tobe Hooper's “Eaten Alive” (1977), and Walt Disney’s “The Watcher In The Woods” (1980), as well as portraying Lindsey Wallace in John Carpenter's “Halloween” (1978). Since 2010, she has appeared as a main cast member on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” and as of 2022, is the last remaining original cast member on the show.
You starred in “Little House on the Prairie” as a child. Is that what made you want to pursue acting?
My mother studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, and it was her dream to be an actress. Once she became a mom at a young age she ended up putting my sisters, Kathy and Kim, into the business in New York. They moved from New York City to California and continued to act. I was born while my sister Kim was on “Nanny and the Professor.” My mom didn't want me to feel left out from my sister's acting careers, so she started taking me out on auditions. I was shy and she thought that would help me overcome my shyness.
Is the experience different from acting as a child, or as an adult?
Completely different. I was oblivious to what I was doing, I was just having fun. Everyone on set was so nice to me and it all seemed easy. I didn't even know I was on a horror film, until I saw myself in the film and then ended up sleeping with my mom until I was 15.
Do you prefer acting or being on reality TV?
I prefer acting; with acting you are a character and can immerse yourself in that role, and when you go home you can leave it behind. Reality TV opens your whole life to the public and the scrutiny that comes with it; it can be all consuming. You can't shut it off, there are times I want to escape it, but you can't.
How has your experience on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” been?
There have been a lot of incredible times on RHOBH that I will never forget and always be grateful for, and there has also been some of the most difficult times of my life as well. I still would not change it for anything. The show has been good to me and opened a lot of doors. It's given me the opportunity to produce television shows, write my book, and continue to my acting, among other things, and they have been incredibly supportive.
Is there anything you can tell us about your new movie “Halloween Ends?”
I just feel extremely grateful to be part of such an iconic film franchise. I am fortunate to be in this position, not many people can say they've been playing the same character for so many years, with such a loyal fan base. David Gordon Green and the entire crew was so incredible. Overall, it's been an amazing experience. When I was in this movie as a little girl I could've never imagined being here today and still talking about it.
How is it working with Jamie Lee Curtis?
I absolutely love working with Jaime. The relationship we have developed over the years has grown stronger and stronger. Jamie is a class act, working with her as an actor she is selfless and collaborative. I'm grateful to have her as a lifelong friend.
You are a part of two cult favorites: the “Real Housewives” franchise and the “Halloween” movies. Is it exciting to be a part of something so major?
I find it so fascinating that the fans of the Halloween movies are so passionate, and the housewives’ fans are as well. What I've seen is this sort of coming together of the two, and I'm grateful to be a part of two things that people love so much.
