Maison Louis Marie: A Legacy of Fragrance, Sustainability, and Botanical History

Maison Louis Marie embodies a rich family legacy with fragrance that goes back to Louis Marie Aubert du Petit Thouars. He became a pioneer in French botanical history after he was exiled during the French Revolution and discovered a wide variety of plant specimens, bringing over 2000 back to France. Founded by Marie du Petit Thouars, Maison Louis Marie creates luxury perfumes, candles, and skincare with a focus on clean and non-toxic ingredients. Growing up in Belgium, Marie played in her grandfather’s nursery, made candles, and explored scents in her mother’s greenhouse. Maison Louis Marie’s products are never tested on animals or made with animal-derived ingredients. The brand uses sustainable packaging and works with organizations that do good for the environment: 1% for the Planet, National Forest Foundation, and Climate Neutral. Eau de Parfum Discovery Set, $25

This discovery set contains mini versions of Maison Louis Marie’s best-seller fragrances. It’s great for sampling or taking on the go. I tested each of these fragrances on separate days and I have never received so many compliments on my perfume (especially with No. 13 Nouvelle Vague). The scents lasted on me all day and I loved smelling their notes develop. Love scents that are floral or fresh? Or maybe earthy and woody? No matter your mood or favorite category of scents, there’s a fragrance for you in this set. Here’s a breakdown of each perfume:

No. 02 Le Long Fond has a top note of hinoki wood; middle notes of cedarwood and patchouli; and a base note of white musk.

No. 04 Bois de Balincourt has top notes of sandalwood and cedarwood; middle notes of vetiver, nutmeg, and cinnamon; and a base note of amber wood.

No. 09 Vallée de Farney has top notes of grapefruit, orange, and black pepper; middle notes of cedarwood, patchouli, and geranium; and base notes of vetiver, amber, and musk.

No. 12 Bousval has top notes of bergamot, cardamom, and valencia orange; middle notes of heliotrope flower, white ginger, and petitgrain; and base notes of gilded amber, cedar noir, and myrrh.

No. 13 Nouvelle Vague has top notes of muguet, coconut waters, and lemon; middle notes of Tuscan fig, tonka, and agave; and base notes of vetiver, amber, and santal.

Antidris Cassis has top notes of cassis, bergamot, and black pepper; middle notes of white rose; and base notes of oakmoss, musk, and tonka.

No. 14 Icila Perfume Oil, $16-65

This is my new favorite fragrance. If you’re looking for a sophisticated scent that’s sultry and sweet, No.14 Icila is perfect for you. This warm floral scent draws inspiration from the French word “ici,” which means “here,” reminding us that time is a precious gift. Icila opens with top notes of ruby pamplemousse, mandarin leaf, and jasmine. It develops to middle notes of Bulgarian rose, dark plum, and osmanthus. It then dries down to base notes of patchouli, vanilla flower, and sakura blossom. This long-lasting perfume oil is also perfect for layering with different fragrances.
