You grew up in the background of film and television sets. Are there certain references to these elements of your childhood in your work?
As new and exciting as being in front of the camera is, especially in a multi-camera sitcom, there is a level of comfort that comes to me naturally, just being on set. My comedy instincts come from watching great comedy for so many years on the “George Lopez.” I have been a student of comedy since I was 5 years old. Also, I feel like I learned to be a producer from watching my mom, who was a producer, who had her own production company for many years.

#humYour series “Lopez vs. Lopez” features you as both an actor and producer. What is something that intrigued you about doing both in the same show?
As a producer, I have more creative control in the direction of the show than if I was just an actress. I am grateful to be both creative and collaborative in a show that is so personal to me and my own experiences.

What were some revelations you had while working with your father, George Lopez? Were there any moments that felt like such an intense walk down memory lane while filming “Lopez vs. Lopez?”
I’ve had to up my depression and anxiety medication, but in all seriousness, while it has not always been easy, in those moments it shows me how far my relationship with my dad has been. It’s not all hard, my dad and I make each other laugh constantly and this is a time in my life I am going to cherish forever. I absolutely love working with my dad. It is an honor to watch his comic genius and to learn from him.

How do you think both yours and your father’s humor play off each other in the series?
We have been poking fun at each other my entire life. We have a similar sense of humor and, in a way, it’s always been “Lopez vs Lopez.” I would describe our dynamic as a “one-two punch” of comedy.

Who are some of your inspirations that you like to draw from when playing a character?
My quote in my high school yearbook was from Lucille Ball. She said, “I’m not funny, what I am is brave.” She’s my biggest inspiration in terms of comedy and I think of her every day when I go to work.

You are incredibly stylish! Who are some designers that are really catching your eye now?
Harris Reed - They are so revolutionary, creative, and a trailblazer in the fluidity of fashion. They just became the Creative Director of Nina Ricci. Their designs spark such joy and inspiration to me. Sustainability is important to me in fashion. I’m always on “the hunt” for gently used pieces. I love the art of high and low. Mixing vintage pieces with new. A perfect outfit might be a 70s’ Gucci jacket, a Target t-shirt, and a pair of Good American Jeans.

What’s the biggest difference you notice with working on sets compared to your first job as an AD?
Well, I was 7 years old when I was given the ceremonial title of “Kid AD.’’ I guess Covid protocols have been the biggest adjustment, but I take my five Covid tests a week like a champ.

Where do you see yourself next? Do you have any big ideas or hints?
There are a few things in the works that I can’t talk about, but I’d like to continue expressing myself creatively while using my platform for good. Hosting “Saturday Night Live” and being a guest judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” are definitely on my career bucket list.
